About

I’m a queer pastor and faith community experimenter living and working in Tacoma, Washington. These days I am scheming and dreaming about a new faith community in Tacoma: one which will create space to deepen our connection to the Divine, while empowering us to resist oppression and build a community built on justice and love. Stay tuned as it gets off the ground in the coming months! (Thanks to the support of the good people at First United Methodist Church of Tacoma and the Pacific Northwest Conference of the UMC!) I also am the pastor of a wonderful community at Parkland United Methodist church.

This is my personal blog - a place to reflect on faith, politics, the church, economics, activism - and whatever else provokes me to write!

Views expressed here are my own.

About the title: Since interning for a summer with Christian Peacemaker Teams in Hebron back in 2008, I’ve been captivated by Jesus’ instructions to his disciples in Matt. 10:16. This is a messy world we live in, one that calls for more than just being nice or being right. I’m challenged by this call to be “wise as serpents and gentle as doves” - to be both political and principled, cunning and compassionate, strategic and sincere.
